History of Applebee’s USA
Applebee’s restaurant chain was started by Bill and T. J. Palmer on November 19, 1980. They both wanted to open a restaurant that could make people feel like they were at a neighborhood pub, where people could enjoy high-quality food at an affordable price.
It was initially decided to name the company “Appleby,” but that name was already registered. As a result, other names such as “Cinnamon’s” and “Pepper’s” were considered.
Eventually, on November 19, 1980, in Atlanta, Georgia, the company opened its first location under the name “T.J. Applebee’s Rx for Edibles & Elixirs.”
Within a few years, the company opened a second restaurant. However, in 1983, both founders sold the company to W. R. Grace and Company.
Afterward, the company expanded rapidly, opening restaurants at many locations. The name of the company was also changed to “Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar.”
Applebee’s grew rapidly between the 1980s and 1990s, with many new restaurants opening in different locations.
In 1989, Applebee’s opened its 100th restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee.
The reason for Applebee’s growing popularity was its extensive menu, offering a wide variety of appetizers, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts.
