Bonchon is South Korea’s fried chicken restaurant chain. It was started 20 years ago, in 2002, by Jinduk Seh from Busan, South Korea. Bonchon offers K-style classic fried chicken, rice bowls, mandu meals, seafood, beef, Bibimbowl, K-fries, à la carte chicken, party platters, snacks, desserts, and beverages. How Bonchon Chicken Restaurant Started?
You will find many types of fried chicken outlets in South Korea, but Korean food was not as prevalent in other countries. That’s why Jinduk Seh thought of providing authentic Korean food to the world.
Jinduk worked on researching all Korean flavors for almost two years. Seh learned a technique for making fried chicken that ensures a paper-thin crispy texture outside and tender, juicy meat inside.
After two years of hard work, Jinduk finally succeeded, and a fried chicken company called Bonchon was started. According to the company, Bonchon is a Korean word that means “my hometown.”

Bonchon Stores in Philippines
The first Bonchon Fried Chicken restaurant was opened in the Philippines in 2010. After that, in 2012, the company started expanding in the Philippines. As a result, outlets were opened in Davao and Cebu.
By 2013, the company had established stores in more than 75 locations in the Philippines, making it the fastest-growing quick-service restaurant in the country.
Not only that, a delivery service was started in 2013 in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Bulacan, and Cavite. This increased the company’s dominance in the Philippines.
In 2014, another new Bonchon Philippines store was opened in Cagayan de Oro. By this year, it had more than 80 stores nationwide in the Philippines.
The purpose of this restaurant chain was not fulfilled yet, and in 2015, its restaurants were established in other Philippine cities like Boracay, Bacolod, and Batangas. It currently has 136 stores operating in the Philippines.
Why Bonchon Fried Chicken is Famous?
Bonchon is the first Korean fried chicken restaurant to offer an authentic and delicious taste. Bonchon chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
To make this, first, take half or one kilo of chicken and clean it thoroughly. Then dry it thoroughly. Now, season it with salt and pepper. After seasoning, each piece of chicken is dredged in 2 cups of cornstarch. Deep fry it until it is cooked well. Place the fried chicken pieces on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
To make soy garlic glaze, mix onion, mirin, brown sugar, garlic powder, garlic, soy sauce, and ginger in a saucepan. Heat it on low-medium heat and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and soy-garlic well in a bowl, then add this mixture to the saucepan and stir until it thickens. After that, fry the chicken again in hot oil, toss the chicken pieces in the glaze, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Note: Chicken (chops/wings/chops sandwich) boxed meals and chicken poppers come with soy garlic, spicy, honey citrus, and crunchy garlic flavors.
Worldwide Stores (Asia, North America & Middle East)
Since starting its first store in South Korea in 2002, Bonchon has grown to 137 stores worldwide.
In 2006, the company established its first overseas store in Fort Lee, New Jersey, USA, and launched its signature sauce there. This was when Jinduk Seo elevated the company to a prominent position in the international market, turning it into a recognized brand.
The company opened stores in New York and Virginia in 2007 and in Massachusetts and California in 2008. By 2010, many Bonchon restaurants and stores had opened across America.
After establishing stores in the USA, it was time to expand into Southeast Asia. Consequently, this fried chicken food chain opened its first Southeast Asian store in Thailand. In the same year, the company also opened a store in the Philippines, where it gained more popularity due to its exciting Korean-American flavors.
In 2011, Bonchon Global launched its Franchise Program, which enabled the company to expand to countries like Indonesia and Singapore, bringing its total number of worldwide stores to 50.
By 2013, the company had more than 100 stores globally. By launching new products in 2014, Bonchon expanded to countries like Cambodia and Bahrain, increasing the number of its international stores to over 150.
