History of Subway
Subway was founded on August 28, 1965, by Fred DeLuca and financed by Peter Buck.
The first store was opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut, under the name Pete’s Super Submarines.
After several name changes, the company finally settled on the name Subway in 1972. In 1974, the company started franchise operations with a restaurant in Wallingford, Connecticut.
Within a few years, Subway opened many restaurants across North America. After its success in North America, Subway began expanding internationally.
In December 1984, Subway opened its first restaurant outside of North America, in Bahrain.
In 1996, Subway opened its first restaurant in Brighton, United Kingdom.
To further increase Subway’s availability, the company began opening stores in Walmart Supercenters in 2004. Within four years, Subway surpassed McDonald’s in the number of US Walmart stores.
Finally, in 2010, Subway became the largest fast-food chain in the world, securing the top rank in the Fastest Growing Franchise category.
According to current figures, Subway is the world’s largest fast-food restaurant chain, with 410,000 employees and more than 40,000 locations in over 100 countries.

Subway states “freshest” ingrediants but, use preshredded bagged lettuce?? YUCK. Open a bag of the lettuce & smell the odor. It is sickening, that was when I stopped eating Subway. To me you have FALSE ADVERTISING!!
