Therefore it was decided to name the company Whataburger. This word is derived from What a burger.
For this, in June 1950, Dobson acquired the Whataburger trademark. Within 2 months of this, on August 8, 1950, he opened his first restaurant in Corpus Christi, Texas. In this store, he used to sell burgers for 25 cents, as well as drinks and chips were also available on the menu at that time.
In 1952, whataburger opened its first store outside of Corpus Christi in Kingsville.
Until 1958, the stores of this restaurant chain were only in Texas, so in 1959, Whataburger opened a restaurant outside Texas in Pensacola, Florida.
By 1960, this company had expanded to Texas, Florida, and Tennessee.
In 1962, French fries and hot pies were added to the Fast Food Menu. In 1963, this Restaurant Company also established its presence in Arizona.
By 1965, a total of 26 stores of this company had been opened. Their number increased to 40 by 1967.
