History of Longhorn Steakhouse
LongHorn Steakhouse’s first restaurant was opened in 1981 by George McKerrow, Jr. and his father on Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia.
The idea of opening a restaurant came when McKerrow and his father visited a Steakhouse dining restaurant in San Francisco.
In January 1982, commuters were trapped due to a sudden snowstorm in Atlanta. At this time the LongHorn Steakhouse restaurant was struggling. McKerrow offered $1 drinks and menu specials for stranded motorists.
This gesture got a lot of publicity and this incident attracted a lot of customers. Since then the company started growing rapidly.
In August 2007, this restaurant was completely acquired by Darden Restaurants, Inc.
