History of Longhorn Steakhouse
LongHorn Steakhouse opened its first restaurant in 1981, founded by George McKerrow Jr. and his father on Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia.
The idea for the restaurant came when McKerrow and his father visited a steakhouse in San Francisco.
In January 1982, Atlanta experienced a sudden snowstorm, leaving many commuters stranded. At that time, LongHorn Steakhouse was struggling. McKerrow offered $1 drinks and menu specials to the stranded motorists, which gained significant publicity and attracted customers. The business grew rapidly from there.
In August 2007, Darden Restaurants, Inc. fully acquired the restaurant.
