History of Denny’s USA
The first Denny’s store was opened by Harold Butler and Richard Jezak in 1954 in Lakewood, California, under the name Danny’s Donuts.
After Jezak’s departure in 1956, Butler converted the donut shop into a coffee shop, and the name of the shop was changed to Danny’s Coffee Shops.
Because there was already a restaurant named Coffee Dan’s, to avoid confusion, Butler changed its name to Denny’s Coffee Shops in 1959.
In 1961, its name was further shortened to Denny’s.
After expanding to many locations in the United States, it was now time for international expansion.
In 1967, the first international restaurant was opened in Acapulco, Mexico.
